So we understand many of the storytelling elements for Lifestyle photography, but I want to break it down even further by identifying each of these elements at play in two different kinds of shooting scenarios:
1. A Controlled Lifestyle Session.
2. An Uncontrolled Lifestyle Session.
Remember, in a controlled Lifestyle Session everything is planned beforehand. You have the ability to manipulate your subjects through posing and setting a scene.
In an uncontrolled Lifestyle Session you are part of the background and the success of the images depends more on your ability to maneuver yourself rather than control other people (think about event photography/journalism/documentary work).
No doubt you will find yourself in both types of situations and understanding how to apply the storytelling principles in both will be of great benefit.
